Growing up isn't the easiest thing to do, if anything it is a trying process.
In my previous entry I had a bit of a rant concerning my cell phone bill. This morning I went to Circuit City to talk it out and hopefully have some of the fees- completely unexpected ones at that- waved. When I first got the phone I knew my biggest problem was texting so I made such effort in not texting people lest necessary and not answering back for the same reason. I figured talking on the phone instead of sending a text would greatly cut down on the bill I would receive. Come to find out that's not the case. In turn I ended up talking around 250 minutes over what I pay for (450 min). Also $0.45 is charged for every extra over'd minute talked. I ended up having to get a bigger plan to double my minutes so now I pay to talk for 900 minutes a month.
Afterwards I went to wal mart to pick up a couple of food items for this next week. I knew that anything I got had to be because I needed it. I went straight to the freezer section and stocked up on $1.24 bags of frozen broccoli, italian mixed veggies and asain mixed veggies. When you don't have tons of money to work with to splurge on "fun food" you have to become innovative and creative. My mom let me borrow some recipes for the meals she makes that I love and I also brought in my Betty Crocker cookbook that's been sitting in my car.
I feel that my mom was so great when she raised us because she genuinely tried to make the wisest decisions. We didn't have to go out and buy a $4 box of granola, she would go home to make it. Everything from scratch pretty much all the time. She was a strong woman to have the time and capacity to make all of that. But in her being like that, it motivated me to do the same. Plus in the end things are much healthier and you can monitor what you put in your body.
I'm seeing my lack of money as a blessing rather than a curse. I'm eager to look through all of these recipes and see what fun things I can make for next to nothing. Here's to trying new things!
