As I mentioned in the last entry, I had a spooky experience at work.
My desk and area is part of an add on to an old 1865 Greek Revival home. (Think old victorian house)
In the 1970's the home was bought by a producer and had the upstairs as his living quarters while downstairs held recording/tracking areas.
The original owner was a man who was a Confederate General whom after being released bought a piece of land and built the house where I currently am working.
Not too terribly long after the house was built the man passed away and the home stayed in the family until the 1960's.
In the 70's the house was definitely known for the people who came in and out, the records recorded, the parties, the drinking the drugs and the ladies. Basically the epitome of sex, drugs and rock n roll. During that time the producer who owned the home experienced many weird things. It's even said that because of the things that would happen in the house, engineers refused to come back. And by experiences I mean encounters with ghosts and spirits.
Before I go any further I want to express that I am a firm believer in Christ and that when we as Christians depart from the earth we go to be with the Lord. In saying that, whatever it is that "haunts" houses and people I don't believe is of God. Because, if you think about it once you pass on and your spirit rises to heaven to be with God there is no reason for it to reside on the earth any longer. And also were these "spirits" and "ghosts" of God, why would they bring about fear and uncertainty?
(2 Timothy 1:7 totally confirms that)
Okay so back to the story- while the producer was living upstairs he would, at night, hear the violin being played at the bottom of the staircase. Through video feeds from the rooms downstairs it was plain to see that no one was there and people had been gone for hours. If the "ghost" were angry he would stomp his feet. If ever you were to do something to deface the name and dignity of the home the ghost would surely let you know. From what I was told, this man loved his home and took great pride in it, so do not by any means talk smack-- he also loved the excitedness of the home. He loved that there was hustle and bustle, tons of people around having a good time. He showed his anger when there was talk to moving out.
At some point in the late 80's the home was sold to a Christian music producer. To be honest I haven't heard about any encounters with evil spirits or ghosts during the 10-15 years the home was owned by the second producer. Also I know that when the second producer came in he completely said "no" to any of the activity such as the drugs and partying in the house. I wouldn't doubt if because the presence of the Lord was here during that period, no evil thing could permeate this place.
In I want to say 2001 the home was sold once again and purchased by the church across the street. It was dormant for a few years until the current owners, my bosses, purchased it. I believe that in the time where the house stood abandoned, whatever evil spirits resided here before decided to take residence again.
In late February of this year I started to work here. Knowing that it was an old house, and also knowing none of the background at the time, I jokingly asked if we had any ghosts. My co-worker whom I asked assured me that there was and told me stories. Apparently if you walk around the home at night you could easily run into this ghost as he can sometimes be seen on the stair case or walking through the rooms. Lights flicker, doors open and slam shut, etc. And by the way, these doors are old so they're heavy heavy doors, not something like today's where someone could punch a hole through them.
A couple of weeks ago I gave Zack a tour of the house and showed him the basement. I told him that it creeped me out and wanted to see what he thought. There's this little hallway, about 3-4 feet in length and about feet wide where at the end on the right side is a door. Zack opened the door and though all I could see was darkness, I heard men whispering. No other people were around and my co-workers were all upstairs in the very back of the add on. It wasn't them.
Last Friday afternoon at work my boss asked me into her office to confirm what she was hearing. She said it sounded as if someone, the ghost, was walking above her. She said that everytime she brings someone in there to hear it, it doesn't happened, though it happened on Friday and she wanted to see if I could confirm it for her. Quick info: her office is what used to be an "Iso" room aka Isolation room aka recording booth. Along all of the walls is thick padding and soundproofing materials as well as in the ceiling and floor. There's no way you can or should hear things inside or out.
I stand quietly in her office staring at the ceiling and all of a sudden I hear it, it's the sound of a man's boot walking across the wooden floor. He takes a few steps then stops, the sound of a wooden chair moving or being pushed across the floor is very prevalent. A few more steps were taken.... I was in her office for about 10 minutes and throughout that time we would both hear this walking. Apparently she hears it all the time. It confused me and scared me and for the rest of the day I was spooked. There was no one upstairs, no one occupies that space because it's all attic. My boss then told me multiple experiences that she's had at the house working in the evening and recommended a book about the local ghosts of the town.
On Saturday I go ti all of the book stores in search of this text and my last stop is a little mom 'n' pop booksellers.
In trying to make a long story short, coincidence would have it that as I walk in and ask for the book I am greeted by the author. She only works there every 3-6 months for a couple of hours when the owners have to take care of something. She invites me to the ghost tour that takes place every night at 8. - Fast forward to Sunday evening when Zack and I go on the tour and find out that pretty much all of the houses around where I work are haunted.
Fast forward to last night: having all of these experiences and being surrounded by all of this darkness has put so much fear in me and paranoia. I got to the point where I was having nightmares almost every night, I couldn't sleep, and at work I was afraid because I felt surrounded, like I was being watched. I broke down to my mom last night and she prayed over the whole situation and gave me proclamations of prayer and scripture which I feel like I should, well, proclaim.
Claiming that I am covered by the blood of Christ and that any of those evil spirits have no hold whatsoever over me and may no longer have hold over my workplace.
Psalm 91:1-11 " He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, not the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will NOT come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you make the Most High your dwelling-- even the Lord, who is my refuge-- then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;"
Proverbs 3:23-36 "Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have no dear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared."
There are many more verses , but I felt I should share this story with you, if by some miracle you had the strength to actually finish this I commend you. Let me know, I will hug you the next time I see you.
So there you are, Betsy and the spooky studio and Christ taking over.

I firmly believe there are lost souls throughout our lives, trying to accomplish ... something. Our family home was haunted -- well, I never saw the ghosts, but some of my siblings did. (Hey, the house is out of the family now!) And I've been on some ghost walks, too, that have been very interesting. I hope you find your own life more peaceful, and feel Christ working to keep you safe. This ghost guide and psychic has written a book sharing her personal stories of her encounters with real-life ghosts who sought her out in their quest to find their way home. It's not just about the sightings, but also about why the souls chose to linger. I think you'll like it because she talks about "what happens when I die." (I mean beyond going with the Lord.)
